Koa means "brave" and "fearless" in Hawaiian.
Endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, the koa phyllode (the "adult leaf" of the tree) has a distinctive crescent moon shape. Inspired by the koa trees surrounding me while hiking along Kipuka Puaulu ("Bird Park") in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, I created this delicate necklace.
Leaf is just over 1" long and is cast in sterling silver and electroplated with 2.5 microns of 14kt gold. 14kt gold-filled chain with spring clasp.
Sterling silver or mixed metal version can be found here.
